Laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target the pigment (melanin) in individual hair follicles. The heat from the laser damages the follicle at its root, disrupting future hair growth — without affecting the surrounding skin.
Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are required to catch each follicle in its active growth phase. Most clients see 80–95% permanent hair reduction after completing a full series of treatments.
How many sessions will I need? Most areas require 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Hormonal areas (face, bikini) may need a few additional sessions. During your consultation, Kelly will give you a personalized treatment timeline based on your hair type and growth patterns.
Laser hair removal works best when there is contrast between hair color and skin tone — darker hair absorbs more laser energy, producing faster results. At 18 Spa, our medical-grade lasers are designed to safely treat a broad range of skin tones, from fair to medium-dark.
You may be a great candidate if you:
We’ll review the following during your consultation:
Not sure if you qualify? Explore our candidacy guide →
Before your session: Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment — do not wax or pluck. Arrive with clean, product-free skin. Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner for at least 2 weeks prior.
During your session: You will wear protective eyewear. A cooling gel or built-in cooling device helps manage heat during treatment. Most clients describe the sensation as a light snap or brief warmth — similar to a rubber band flick. Session length depends on the area: a lip or chin takes minutes; legs or a full back take 30–60 minutes.
After your session: Redness and mild swelling are normal and typically resolve within a few hours. Avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ for at least 2 weeks post-treatment. Hair will shed over the following 1–2 weeks — this is normal and a sign the treatment worked.

We understand that laser hair removal is not one-size-fits-all. Our medical-grade lasers are calibrated for a wide range of skin tones and hair types. During your consultation, Kelly assesses your skin type, Fitzpatrick scale classification, and hair growth patterns to customize a protocol designed for your specific needs, maximizing hair reduction while protecting your skin.
At a high-volume laser chain, treatments are often rushed and performed by staff with minimal medical training. At 18 Spa, every session is performed or directly supervised by Kelly Wiechert, RN — an experienced medical professional who understands laser physics, skin anatomy, and clinical safety protocols.
That means:
We serve clients from across Northern Colorado including Loveland, Fort Collins, Berthoud, Windsor, Johnstown, and Greeley.
Imagine never having to shave again. Our Laser Hair Removal Service typically requires a series of treatments to catch hair in different growth cycles. The result is a significant, permanent reduction in hair growth, leaving you with skin that is touchably soft and ready for anything.
Does laser hair removal hurt? Most clients find it tolerable — commonly described as a quick snap of heat that fades immediately. We use cooling technology during treatment to minimize discomfort. Sensitive areas like the bikini line and upper lip may feel more intense than legs or arms.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Loveland? Pricing at 18 Spa is per session with package options available for savings. Exact pricing varies by treatment area. Contact us or book a consultation to receive a personalized quote based on your area and hair density.
How long do results last? Laser hair removal produces permanent reduction in treated follicles. After your full series, most clients need only 1–2 maintenance sessions per year (if any) to address any regrowth from dormant follicles activated by hormonal changes.
Can I get laser hair removal if I have darker skin? Yes. Our medical-grade lasers include settings designed for medium to darker skin tones. We perform a thorough skin assessment before your first session to ensure safe and effective treatment for your specific tone.
When is the best time to start laser hair removal? Fall and winter are ideal — reduced sun exposure makes it easier to complete a full treatment series before summer. That said, we treat clients year-round. If you’re hoping to be hair-free by summer, now is the time to start.
